The assets of the Trust were derived substantially from shares in the family business of whisky and wine and spirit merchants Peter Thomson (Perth) Ltd.  This company was founded in 1909 by Peter Thomson, David’s father, Michael’s grandfather, Stuart’s great-grandfather.  The Trust was enlarged significantly when the company was sold in 1982 and further by a bequest from David Thomson when he died in 1993.
